What is Baptism?

To become Christian is to receive a new identity. You no longer allow others to tell you who you are. Christ now claims you and instructs you. A Christian is one who has “put on Christ.” Baptism celebrates becoming that new person.

Baptism does not make you a Christian. Only believing in Jesus makes you a Christian. Baptism is an outward sign that you already are a Christian, just like a wedding ring is a sign of marriage.

As a United Methodist Church, we baptize adults and infants of Christian parents. We believe that baptism of infants is a sign of God's "prevenient grace,' the grace that works in our lives before we are aware of it, bringing us to faith. However, if infant baptism is not part of your tradition, we would be happy to dedicate your child.
